LAS VEGAS, NV — Morning commuters in the southwest valley faced delays Wednesday following a collision between a school bus and a passenger vehicle at a busy intersection.
The accident occurred at 6:22 AM on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the intersection of Sunset Road and Durango Drive. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the bus involved is owned and operated by Amplus Academy, a local charter school.
Empty Bus Prevents Potential Tragedy
Police confirmed that at the time of the impact, there were no children aboard the bus. While the collision caused significant visual damage to both vehicles, no injuries were reported for the bus driver or the occupants of the second vehicle.
Traffic Impact and Investigation
The crash resulted in the temporary closure of the right-hand lane on westbound Sunset Road as investigators processed the scene and tow crews worked to clear the wreckage. The lane was reopened shortly after 9:00 AM.
Metro’s traffic bureau is currently investigating the cause of the collision. Preliminary findings have not yet determined if speed or a failure to yield contributed to the accident, though impairment is not suspected at this time.
