“I’m Not a Monster,” Says a Las Vegas Kid Who Confesses to Murdering His Girlfriend’s Father.

Aaron Guerrero, 20, told the investigator what led up to the death of his girlfriend’s father.

Daniel Halseth, 45, was stabbed 70 times and burned in 2021. Sierra, 16, and Guerrero, then 18, were the killers.

Guerrero: “She got the weapon first, and I usually carry a weapon, so you know what happened.”

Whose idea was the murder? asked Murphy.

“It was both of our ideas because we didn’t know what to do, but we knew we had to do something,” Guerrero said.

Teens stated Halseth abused and mistreated his daughter, but his family denied it.

After the murder, the teens took Halseth’s car and were apprehended in Salt Lake City after recording a video confessing to the crime.

Sierra told Guerrero not to state “day three after murdering someone” in the video.

“We were both trying to deal, and I feel remorse every day,” Guerrero added.

Sierra didn’t apologize at her October sentencing; Guerrero did. Both teens pleaded guilty to murder and received life sentences with parole after 22 years.

Sierra Halseth and Aaron Guerrero are sentenced in 2022.

Guerrero was interviewed from jail the day after learning his punishment before being taken to High Desert State Prison.

Guerrero said he had mental health concerns but wasn’t taking his medicine.

“I pretended to take it, and I think that had an influence,” he said.

He says he got LSD from an unnamed website.

“I don’t think I would have been capable of something like that sober because it’s a psychological drug and makes the mental disease worse,” he stated.

Guerrero says he’s taking his medication and hopes to show the Halseth family he’s changed if he’s given parole.

Murphy asked, “How will you apologize?”

“By showing them I’m not a monster and can still contribute to society,” he said.

Sierra Halseth is in prison in North Las Vegas. Guerrero won’t contact her.

“I acted on instinct, not love,” he stated.

Sierra is the daughter of former state Rep. Elizabeth Halseth. As her relationship with Daniel fell apart, a custody struggle ensued.
