Lake Mead: Teen Drowns After Falling into Deep Water

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, September 4, 2024 12:23 pm

A 19-year-old individual tragically lost their life at Lake Mead National Recreation Area after falling into deep water without wearing a life vest. Park Rangers and the Boulder City Fire Department responded to the incident, but the victim was found unresponsive.

Lake Mead Public Affairs stated that the victim slipped off a shelf near the Nelson’s Landing area. This location is known for its cliffs, and the National Park Service (NPS) has strict prohibitions against cliff-jumping in the area due to the inherent dangers.

In light of this incident, the NPS is reminding visitors of the importance of water safety. Wearing a flotation device while on Lake Mohave is mandatory, and several loaner stations are available throughout the park.

Always wear a life vest when in or near the water, and avoid risky behaviors like cliff-jumping.
