Las Vegas, NV – A cold case homicide investigation spanning more than three decades has finally yielded a breakthrough. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Cold Case Section has identified the victim, previously known as “Jane Tropicana Doe,” as Linda Sue Anderson, also known as Linda Sue Andrews.

A Gruesome Discovery: In April 1993, a biologist conducting a tortoise survey in the desolate area near Tropicana Avenue and Durango Drive stumbled upon a chilling scene. Half-buried in the dirt, concealed beneath several large rocks, lay a handmade quilt. Upon closer examination, the biologist noticed human hair and the unmistakable odor of decomposition.

Tragedy Unfolds: The Clark County Coroner’s office determined that the remains belonged to a woman, likely killed sometime in mid-to-late 1991. Despite extensive efforts, authorities remained unable to identify the victim, leaving her case unsolved for decades.

A Beacon of Hope: In February 2023, a glimmer of hope emerged. LVMPD detectives, determined to bring closure to the case, contacted Othram, a leading forensic genealogy company. Othram, utilizing advanced DNA analysis techniques, meticulously combed through genetic databases, searching for potential matches.

Justice Delayed, Not Denied: The breakthrough came last month. Othram notified LVMPD detectives that “Jane Tropicana Doe” had finally been identified: Linda Sue Anderson, a 38-year-old resident of Henderson at the time of her death. Tragically, her family reported having last heard from her during a phone call in June 1991.

Seeking Answers: The identification of Linda Sue Anderson marks a significant milestone in the investigation, but it is far from the end. The circumstances surrounding her death remain shrouded in mystery, and the LVMPD Cold Case Section continues their tireless efforts to bring justice for Linda Sue and her loved ones.

Seeking the Public’s Help: Anyone with information about Linda Sue Anderson or the events leading to her death is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
