Mirage Volcano Makes Way for Paramount Mountain: Super Bowl Display Takes Over Iconic Las Vegas Attraction

Las Vegas, NV – The fiery embrace of the Mirage volcano is temporarily taking a backseat to an icy peak as crews transform the beloved Las Vegas landmark into “Paramount Mountain” for a massive interactive display ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.

This temporary Alpine takeover of the iconic Strip attraction marks a shift in entertainment for at least the next month, with the volcano’s fiery eruptions temporarily swapped for interactive experiences inspired by popular Paramount content, including Transformers, Yellowstone, and Dora the Explorer.

From Lava to Lift Tickets:

Crews began working on the transformation Tuesday, taking initial steps to construct the fake mountain and cover the surrounding lake. The final product, opening to the public on February 8th and accessible through Super Bowl Sunday, will be a block-long structure bursting with immersive experiences for tourists.

A Super Bowl Spectacle:

“Paramount Mountain” is part of a promotional effort by Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, the Super Bowl’s broadcast home. This “Expedition Vegas: Journey to the Peak” experience will allow fans to ascend the artificial mountain through a 4D simulation gondola ride, offering stunning views of the Strip from its peak.

The Future of the Volcano:

While the volcano’s fiery show has temporarily cooled, it’s set to return in mid-February. However, this might be the last hurrah for the iconic attraction. Hard Rock International, the Mirage’s new owners, plan to demolish the volcano and replace it with a 660-foot-tall guitar-shaped hotel tower as part of their transformation of the property into their Hard Rock brand. A final show date for the volcano has yet to be determined.
