Las Vegas Corrections Officer Charged in Fatal DUI Hit-and-Run

A 19-year veteran corrections officer in Las Vegas, Maurice Washington, is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of a fatal crash early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 3:28 a.m. at Decatur Boulevard and Alta Drive, where Washington’s vehicle struck and killed 58-year-old Elijah Givens, who was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk against the pedestrian signal.
Washington reportedly fled the scene but returned approximately 45 minutes later, exhibiting signs of impairment, leading to his arrest.
He has been charged with DUI, reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm, hit-and-run, and possessing a fraudulent vehicle registration.
Bail was set at $250,000, and he remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
