Las Vegas Man Faces Felony Charges After Gunning Down Dog in Eastside Neighborhood

A Las Vegas man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly gunning down a dog in cold blood late Wednesday night. Authorities say 34-year-old Kevin Hoskins didn’t just lose his temper—he took a firearm and opened fire on a kenneled animal inside an occupied home.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded around 11:15 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 6000 block of Halehaven Drive, a residential neighborhood near Sloan Lane and Washington Avenue. What they found wasn’t just a dead animal—it was a sign of a society that desperately needs stronger enforcement and a serious dose of accountability.

Witnesses told officers that Hoskins had been increasingly hostile toward the dog and had reportedly made threats to kill it. When others tried to remove the animal from the area to prevent harm, Hoskins allegedly responded by pulling out a firearm and firing multiple rounds directly into the kennel. The dog, trapped and defenseless, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement immediately arrested Hoskins, who now faces one count of Willful/Malicious Torture/Maim/Kill of a Dog, and 13 separate counts of Discharging a Firearm Within an Occupied Structure. This wasn’t a single rash mistake—it was a deliberate act of aggression with a deadly weapon in a residential area.

Hoskins is being held at the Clark County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning. As the investigation continues, many in the community are asking the obvious: Where is the accountability? And how much longer will we tolerate these avoidable crimes in the name of “personal frustration”?

We can only hope the justice system gets this one right—for the safety of both people and pets alike.
