Las Vegas Man Tosses Chihuahua into Dumpster—Public Outcry Fuels Push for Stricter Animal Cruelty Laws
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, April 16, 2025 11:37 am
A Las Vegas man was caught on surveillance video throwing a 12-pound Chihuahua into a dumpster. The footage, shared by the Vegas Pet Rescue Project, shows the individual exiting a dark SUV, carrying the dog by the scruff of its neck, and discarding it into the trash before closing the lid.
Fortunately, a neighbor discovered the distressed animal before the garbage truck arrived. The dog, now named Atreyu, is recovering at a local animal hospital.
This incident has reignited calls for the passage of “Reba’s Law” in the Nevada Legislature, which aims to implement harsher penalties for animal cruelty convictions.
As a society that values the rule of law and the protection of the innocent, it’s imperative that we hold individuals accountable for such reprehensible actions. The revival of “Reba’s Law” represents a step toward ensuring that those who commit acts of cruelty face appropriate consequences.
