LAS VEGAS, NV — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has officially released the identities of the three patrol officers involved in Wednesday’s fatal shooting of an armed suspect in the eastern Las Vegas Valley.
The Involved Personnel
In accordance with standard administrative protocols, the agency identified the responding personnel as Officer Marcos Vega, Officer Gianni Rivera, and Officer Jhovany Romo. All three officers are assigned to the department’s patrol division and have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a formal internal review of the incident.
The Escalation Grid
The critical safety hazard unfolded near the intersection of East Lake Mead Boulevard and North Sloan Lane after the communications center fielded an influx of urgent 911 calls from local motorists. Dispatchers received reports of an adult male standing along the roadway actively brandishing a handgun and firing rounds directly into moving public traffic lines.
According to unsealed force investigation logs, the officers arrived on-scene and established a tactical containment line. The armed suspect repeatedly refused direct verbal orders to drop his weapon, ultimately raising his handgun and discharging a round toward the responding units. Faced with an immediate lethal threat, the officers unsealed their service weapons and returned fire, striking the suspect.
The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by arriving emergency medical teams. No law enforcement personnel or traveling civilians sustained injuries during the active crossfire. The LVMPD Force Investigation Team remains in absolute command of the ongoing ballistics audit and area surveillance review to finalize the formal use-of-force report.
