Two men, Daizon Blue and Jermaree Ricks, were arrested in North Las Vegas on Tuesday, July 23, in connection to a string of smoke shop burglaries that plagued Clark County for nearly a month.
According to an arrest report obtained by FOX5, the burglaries took place between June 23 and July 19, targeting multiple smoke shops across the county. The suspects employed a consistent modus operandi, shattering the front door with a sledgehammer and cutting through the interior security gate with a saw. Each burglary was executed swiftly, typically lasting only two to four minutes, while another accomplice acted as a lookout.
Surveillance footage from Break Time Vape, one of the targeted businesses, captured the suspects in action, smashing through a store window on Sky Point Drive. The shop was hit multiple times in July, resulting in the theft of $20,000 worth of products, a safe, and a cash register.
“It sucks that they took all this product and broke the windows and all of it,” lamented Wayne Boulton Jr., the store’s regional manager.
Investigators noted that the suspect vehicle used in the burglaries may have traveled between Nevada and California.
The break in the case came when police, while following the suspected vehicle, observed the suspects attempting to break into another smoke shop on Losee Road. As the suspects shattered the glass, officers moved in and apprehended Blue. Other suspects fled, but Ricks was caught a short distance away.
Both Blue and Ricks were booked into Clark County Detention Center, where they remain in custody. Blue’s attempt to post bond was dismissed by a judge.
The arrests bring an end to a wave of burglaries that caused significant financial losses for local businesses and disrupted the community’s sense of security.
