Major 24-Hour Roadwork and Airport Access Detours
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, April 30, 2026 11:35 am
Significant infrastructure projects have triggered continuous detours affecting major arteries surrounding Harry Reid International Airport. These changes began at 3:00 AM on Thursday, April 30, and are listed as “until further notice”:
-
Northbound Airport Access: Drivers leaving Terminal 1 on Northbound Paradise Road are being detoured after the terminal. Traffic must proceed north across Russell Road, continue on University Center Drive, and then turn left onto Flamingo Road to rejoin regular routes.
-
Southbound Airport Access: Commuters on Eastbound Flamingo Road are being detoured at Paradise Road. Drivers must turn right onto Paradise Road, heading south across Tropicana Avenue, and follow designated airport signage to reach Terminal 1 (Zero Level).
-
Ongoing NDOT Work: Additionally, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is continuing nightly lane reductions on Sunset Road between Las Vegas Boulevard and Annie Oakley Drive through May 8.
Nightly “Phish Egress” Detours at the Sphere
In addition to the permanent roadwork, the Sphere is hosting a high-traffic concert series that has prompted specialized “egress” detours.
-
Timing: These detours are in effect nightly from 9:30 PM to 2:00 AM.
-
Schedule: Restrictions began Thursday, April 30, and will continue through Saturday, May 2, 2026.
-
Impact: Expect heavy congestion and limited access on Sands Avenue, Koval Lane, and Paradise Road during these late-night windows as concertgoers exit the venue.
