LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – A man suspected of murdering his ex-girlfriend in her Las Vegas home and escaping to San Diego is due to appear in court for a bail hearing on Wednesday morning.

Michael Ricks, 25, will appear in court for the second time since being extradited to Las Vegas from San Diego, where he was detained on Sept. 14, a day after Makayla Adams, 20, was discovered dead.

He is due in court at 8:30 a.m.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, Adams got into a dispute with Ricks in her house near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Washington Avenue on the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 13 before he stabbed and murdered her.

Her parents discovered Adams’ body and her uninjured daughter. Her child, whom her family claims she shares with Ricks, is eight months old.

Adam’s mother, Monica Miner, previously stated that her son had been in an abusive relationship with Ricks, who had threatened to murder her. Miner stated that the two lived together in San Diego until Adams moved to Las Vegas to live with her parents in June.

“Makayla has told me he has choked her, dragged her by her hair, pulled her out of bed while she was sleeping,” Miner continued. “He would manipulate her mind and talk her into going back to him, ‘I’ll be good, I’m sorry, forgive me, it won’t happen again,’ and Makayla loved him.”

Miner stated that Ricks had been threatening Adams’ family on social media, forcing Adams to pursue a restraining order against him in California. According to Miner, she was in the midst of filing one in Nevada before her death.

Ricks was being detained at the Clark County Detention Center awaiting his hearing on charges of open murder with a deadly weapon, child abuse or neglect, and burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon.
