In a chilling reminder of the importance of personal responsibility and the right to self-defense, a Las Vegas woman miraculously survived after being stabbed 26 times by her boyfriend in a brutal domestic violence attack. Edina, who asked to be identified only by her first name, shared her harrowing story with 8 News Now, emphasizing her gratitude for the neighbor who intervened with a firearm, ultimately saving her life. “I have to talk about that because I’m still alive. I’m here, and I have to talk about that,” she said, her voice filled with resilience.
The attack occurred on January 16 at an apartment complex near Tropicana and Hacienda avenues. Edina had just returned home from a grueling 12-hour shift cleaning houses when her boyfriend, who lived with her, began acting strangely. “I’m so mad because I don’t know why he was doing this. He knows I love him, and I know he loves me,” she recalled, still grappling with the betrayal. After going to bed, she was awakened by her boyfriend stabbing her repeatedly in the stomach. Fighting back with her hands, she managed to escape the apartment, her screams alerting a neighbor who arrived armed and ready to protect her.
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department reported that the boyfriend died from a self-inflicted wound after SWAT and crisis negotiators responded to the scene. Edina, who suffered multiple stab wounds to her stomach, hands, and neck, spent nearly three weeks recovering at Sunrise Hospital. Doctors and nurses called her survival a miracle. “They told me he stabbed me 26 times. I’m like, what?” she said, still in disbelief.
Edina is now staying with Steve Csiki, a member of the close-knit Las Vegas Hungarian community, who has been helping her recover. “Everybody in the hospital told her, ‘You are one of the blessed ones,’” Csiki said, recounting the severity of her injuries. Despite the trauma, Edina is focused on healing and has begun physical therapy. She plans to return to Hungary after living in the United States for a decade, expressing deep gratitude to the armed neighbor who saved her life. “I want to thank that guy who saved my life because if he’s not coming, I’m dead,” she said.
This story underscores the critical importance of the Second Amendment and the right to self-defense. It also highlights the need for personal responsibility and community vigilance in the face of violence. A GoFundMe has been set up to help Edina rebuild her life and return to Hungary. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or the Domestic Violence Resource Center at 775-329-4150.
