Nevada Lawmakers React to Guilty Verdict Against Former President Donald Trump

In an unprecedented legal development, former President Donald Trump has been found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York, making him the first American president convicted of a crime. Nevada lawmakers have been vocal in their reactions to the verdict.

Governor Joe Lombardo expressed his concern over the fairness of the trial, stating, “I respect the work of the jury but believe that this has been a political witch-hunt in a hostile courtroom. The rule of law should always be applied fairly and without prejudice. President Trump will have an opportunity to appeal, and I expect an unbiased process will vindicate President Trump.”

Senator Catherine Cortez Masto took to social media to share her thoughts, writing, “We know that Donald Trump is willing to do anything to protect his own interests, including undermining our elections. No one is above the law, and I’m glad to see justice served today.”

Representative Dina Titus issued a strong statement following the conviction: “Today, for the first time in our nation’s history, a former president was found guilty of committing multiple felonies. This is a critical moment for our nation. We must recognize that Donald Trump, a twice-impeached, four-times indicted, morally bankrupt individual is undeniably the greatest threat facing our democracy. Trump’s agenda would tear down the social and economic progress we have made in the last few years, and the seeds of hate he sows would once again divide us, not unite us.”

Sam Brown, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Nevada, also weighed in, condemning the trial and expressing support for Trump: “First, they tried to unconstitutionally take President Trump off the ballot. Then, they tried to keep him off the campaign trail. This has been a sham trial from the beginning, all because Joe Biden and The Democrats are afraid of LOSING and answering for their failures this November. I stand with Trump.”

Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11, 2024.
