The Nevada Secretary of State’s Office issued a public advisory on Tuesday regarding a rise in scams involving cryptocurrency ATMs, often referred to as Bitcoin ATMs.
Officials said the office has received an increasing number of reports in which scammers direct victims to deposit money into cryptocurrency kiosks as part of fraudulent schemes. These scams often involve impersonation tactics, including callers claiming to be government agencies, law enforcement, utility companies, or financial institutions.
The Secretary of State’s Office urged residents to be cautious, noting that legitimate agencies will never request payments through cryptocurrency machines. The office encouraged anyone who encounters suspicious activity to report it and avoid sending funds until the legitimacy of the request is verified.
