Pedestrian Ignores Signals, Killed in Crosswalk — Hit by Two Cars, One Driver Fled Scene

In yet another sobering reminder of how ignoring basic rules of the road can lead to irreversible consequences, a pedestrian was killed Saturday night on Boulder Highway after stepping into traffic against the signal—and was struck not once, but twice. The fatal collision occurred around 8:35 p.m. at Boulder and Tropicana Avenue when the man, who was in a marked crosswalk, reportedly failed to obey the traffic control device, according to a release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
A 2007 Toyota Corolla struck the man first. That driver did what responsible citizens do—he remained on the scene and showed no signs of impairment. But in a disturbing twist, a second vehicle believed to be a white Volkswagen Passat from model years 2012 to 2022, ran over the injured man and kept going. Police say the car likely has damage to the lower front bumper and undercarriage, and the search is on to identify the driver.
The pedestrian died at the scene. His disregard for the traffic signal put him—and others—at unnecessary risk. It’s a tough but necessary conversation: Personal responsibility and situational awareness aren’t optional on busy streets. No amount of paint on a crosswalk can protect you if you step into the road without paying attention.
This case is still under investigation. If you have information on the hit-and-run vehicle or its driver, contact Metro’s Collision Investigation Section at 702-828-3595.
