Mid-Block Crossing Turns Fatal
According to fatal collision reports, the 42-year-old pedestrian was attempting to traverse the multi-lane expanse of South Jones Boulevard outside of an illuminated marked crosswalk.
At the same time, a northbound Mercedes-Benz GLC was traveling in the travel lanes north of Rochelle Avenue.
The front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian as he crossed the active lanes.
Clark County Fire Department paramedics deployed to the scene and rushed the victim to UMC Trauma in critical condition.
Despite days of intensive medical intervention, hospital staff pronounced him deceased on Tuesday.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz brought the vehicle to an immediate stop, dialed emergency dispatch, and cooperated fully with responding officers.
Field sobriety tests conducted by traffic officers confirmed that the driver was not impaired by drugs or alcohol, and neither the driver nor two passengers inside the vehicle sustained injuries.
Arterial Hazards and Valley-Wide Toll
The tragic outcome on South Jones Boulevard follows closely on the heels of Fatal #92—an 83-year-old woman struck in a marked crosswalk at South Pecos Road and East Hacienda Avenue on Monday morning—highlighting a lethal stretch for Southern Nevada pedestrians.
+--------------------------------------------------------+
VALLEY TRAFFIC SAFETY CONTEXT
+--------------------------------------------------------+
• Arterial Width: Multi-lane stretches like Jones
present extreme exposure times for pedestrians
• Lighting Disparity: Mid-block nighttime crossings
remain the statistical epicenter of fatal impacts
• Jurisdictional Toll: 93 traffic fatalities
investigated by LVMPD to date in 2026

Metro Traffic Bureau commanders continue to emphasize that wide, high-speed arterials present severe danger during non-daylight hours when motorists have minimal reaction time to detect individuals crossing outside marked, signalized intersections.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name once immediate family members have been formally notified.
