Philadelphia Plane Crash Leaves Seven Dead, Multiple Injured as Authorities Investigate

A devastating plane crash in Philadelphia has claimed the lives of seven people and injured at least 19 others after a medical jet went down Friday night, according to city officials. The crash site, spanning several blocks near Roosevelt Mall, set multiple homes and vehicles ablaze, leaving a trail of destruction and uncertainty in the area.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker confirmed in a Saturday press conference that one of the victims was a person on the ground who was inside a car when the plane made impact. The Philadelphia Fire Department responded to at least five structure fires as a result of the crash and has been conducting a house-to-house search to assess further structural damage.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft—a Learjet 55—departed from a Philadelphia airport en route to Springfield, Missouri, before crashing just minutes after takeoff. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that all six people aboard the plane, including a pediatric patient, were Mexican citizens. The flight’s final destination was Tijuana, Mexico.

Authorities have urged residents to report any debris found in surrounding areas as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FAA begin their investigation into the cause of the crash. Officials warned the public to remain cautious about potential scams, emphasizing that no official GoFundMe or donation efforts have been set up for the victims.

Governor Josh Shapiro and Mayor Parker reaffirmed their commitment to a “One Philly” approach, stating that city, state, and federal officials are working together to manage the aftermath of the crash. Further updates from investigators are expected as the FAA and NTSB continue their inquiry into what led to the fatal incident.
