Police: High-Speed Crash Causes Severe Injuries in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – A collision at the intersection of Decatur Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue in south Las Vegas left one person with severe injuries on July 19.
According to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) arrest report, the incident occurred when a midsize vehicle, driven by Jessica Carreon, made a left turn against a red traffic arrow, colliding with a sedan traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact propelled the midsize vehicle towards a pedestrian, who suffered a spinal fracture and brain bleed requiring emergency surgery.
The sedan’s driver, Michael Woods, was found to be traveling at 82 mph in a 45 mph zone, based on witness testimony, dash camera footage, and vehicle data. Woods surrendered to police and faces charges of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.
Carreon, who was initially unconscious, pleaded nolo contendere to a charge of failing to obey traffic control devices and was released on time served.
Woods faces two felony counts of reckless driving and is due in court for a status check on August 27. The injured pedestrian’s identity and current condition remain unknown.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of adhering to traffic laws.
