LAS VEGAS, NV — The Smith’s Food & Drug location in the south valley officially reopened its doors to the public Wednesday morning, more than two weeks after a catastrophic workplace shooting claimed the lives of two individuals.
A Community Remembers Amanda and Victor Frias Rosas
A large, flower-laden memorial grid remains stationed immediately outside the store entrance at 9750 South Maryland Parkway, near Silverado Ranch Boulevard, to honor victims Amanda Frias Rosas, 40, and Victor Frias Rosas, 43.
The couple was tragically shot and killed inside the commercial venue during the late morning of Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Bystanders inside the supermarket courageously tackled and restrained the suspect on the floor plan until Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) patrol units swarmed the building.
Solidarity on the Sales Floor
Loyal area shoppers flooded the commercial parking lot early Wednesday to express solidarity and support for the returning floor staff. Regular patrons described the deceased couple as “good-hearted, courteous fixtures” of the southern valley neighborhood ecosystem.
Recognizing the immense emotional hurdles of the reopening transition, corporate operators have heavily deployed additional mental health counseling resources, employee assistance programs, and enhanced visible security guards across the floor plan to support workers and community members.
