Southern Nevada Gyms Face Lifeguard Requirement or Pool Closures
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, May 23, 2024 5:38 pm
The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has revoked a waiver program allowing some gyms to operate swimming pools without a lifeguard on duty. This change comes in response to concerns about pool safety.
Previously, 19 gyms in Southern Nevada were permitted to utilize remote monitoring and regular inspections in lieu of lifeguards. However, the SNHD has determined this is no longer sufficient.
The affected gyms, including Las Vegas Athletic Club, Stirling Club, UFC FIT Centennial, and EōS Fitness locations, have been notified and must submit a safety plan that includes hiring lifeguards or face pool closures until they comply. Most gyms have a June deadline to meet the new requirements.
Gym representatives are responding to the changes. EōS Fitness plans to add lifeguards at some locations while permanently closing pools at others. They will also make renovations and add amenities at the closed locations. Members are encouraged to contact their local EōS Fitness for specific updates.
UFC FIT Centennial is actively hiring lifeguards to ensure their pool remains open.
While some gyms have confirmed their plans, others have not yet responded to inquiries.
