Storm Chances and Cooler Temps Continue in Las Vegas Midweek

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, September 3, 2025 12:28 pm

Las Vegas will see below-normal temperatures Wednesday as monsoon conditions continue to bring chances of showers and thunderstorms across the valley. Tuesday’s high reached 96 degrees, but today’s forecast calls for a high around 94 with cloud cover and a 40 percent chance of storms, particularly in the mountains. Winds from the northwest may strengthen during storm activity.

The National Weather Service warns of localized heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning as the primary storm threats this week. Air quality is rated between good and moderate, while pollen levels remain low.

Skies will become partly cloudy tonight, with storm chances tapering off before midnight and overnight lows in the upper 70s. Showers and storms may redevelop Thursday, with lingering chances into Friday before drier conditions return by the weekend.

Meteorologists continue to track Hurricane Lorena in the eastern Pacific, expected to make landfall in Mexico by the end of the week. While Southern Nevada is not projected to be directly impacted, Lorena could delay the eastward retreat of local monsoon moisture.

So far this season, Reid International Airport has recorded just 0.02 inches of rain, ranking this as the fourth driest monsoon season on record. However, localized rainfall has been higher in neighborhoods such as Summerlin, Seven Hills, and North Las Vegas, where totals ranged from 0.04 to 0.12 inches since midnight. Forecast models suggest Las Vegas could pick up an additional 0.03 inches over the coming days, which would move the valley out of its current standing among the driest seasons.
