UNLV Fires Head Basketball Coach Kevin Kruger Amid Underwhelming Season—What’s Next?

UNLV has officially parted ways with men’s basketball head coach Kevin Kruger following another lackluster season. The Rebels finished their 2024-25 campaign with a 17-14 record, falling short of postseason expectations with an 11-9 standing in the Mountain West Conference, landing them in sixth place.
UNLV Athletic Director Erick Harper made the announcement on Saturday, emphasizing the program’s commitment to championship-level performance.
“Our expectation is to contend for and win championships,” Harper stated. “After evaluating the program as a whole, I believe a change is necessary to achieve these goals.” While expressing appreciation for Kruger’s contributions, the university made it clear that mediocrity would not be tolerated.
Kruger, who spent four seasons leading the Rebels, struggled to revive the dominance the program once enjoyed. Now, the search begins for a new head coach who can restore UNLV to its former glory. The question remains—will UNLV go for a seasoned veteran with proven success, or take another risk on an up-and-coming coach?
With an increasingly competitive Mountain West landscape, UNLV fans are eager to see a bold hire that can finally bring the team back to national prominence.
