RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – The Nevada Commission on Ethics chastised Galena High School Basketball Coach Olek Czyz for reportedly marketing his private coaching company on the team’s Twitter account.
At its first meeting of 2023 on Wednesday, January 18, the Nevada Commission on Ethics adopted a specified agreement. According to the terms of the agreement, Galena High School Basketball Coach Olek Czyz consented to accept one non-willful breach of the Ethics Law for using government time, property, equipment, or other facility to benefit his economic interest.
Czyz had promoted his own coaching firm on the basketball team’s Twitter account.
As a result, the Commission reprimanded Czyz and ordered him to undergo ethics training; the parties agreed to dismiss the further offenses stated in the Complaint.
Aside from the Czyz case, the Commission got operational updates from its Executive Director as it prepares for 2023 and the forthcoming Legislative Session.
According to the Executive Director, the Commission observed a rise in activity in calendar year 2022, with 105 Complaints submitted compared to 77 in 2021; it also issued 26 Advisory Opinions to public officials and workers in 2022, compared to 11 the previous year.
The Commission’s next meeting will be on February 15.
