NEVADA – Evelyn Mount, a philanthropist from Reno, passed away at the age of 96.
Mount arrived in Reno in the 1970s and quickly established the Reno-Sparks Community Outreach program, which supplied meals to individuals in need throughout the region.
For more than four decades, she was known for assembling and giving food baskets to the needy. Over 10,000 baskets were distributed in some years.
Mount stepped down from her annual food drives in 2018 owing to health issues.
Reno designated one of its recreation facilities in her honor in 2009.
“Let this holiday season be a reminder of Evelyn’s incredible legacy of the genuine meaning of serving others,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve stated.
Mount was placed on hospice care earlier this week, according to the Reno Gazette Journal.
Mount died on Friday, December 23rd.
