NEVADA – In a disturbing incident that unfolded on Monday, an 18-year-old Sparks man reportedly mugged a senior citizen in downtown Sparks, only to be confronted by a courageous Good Samaritan before being apprehended by the Sparks Police Department.
The suspect, identified as Brayden Brown, was taken into custody by authorities on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon. Due to the victim’s age, these charges carry potential enhanced penalties.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 900 block of Avenue of the Oaks. According to the police, the elderly woman was unaware of Brown’s presence as she tried to enter a building. Without warning, Brown struck her on the side of her head with a gun, forcefully snatched her purse, and fled the scene.
However, a quick-thinking Good Samaritan witnessed the robbery and immediately gave chase. A confrontation ensued between the Good Samaritan and Brown, during which the suspect allegedly brandished the weapon in a threatening manner.
Fortunately, a Sparks police officer happened to be in the vicinity and quickly responded to the incident. Following a brief search, the officer located Brown attempting to hide in an alley. The police promptly recovered the stolen purse and returned it to the victim.
The Sparks Police Department commends the brave actions of the Good Samaritan in assisting the victim and aiding in the capture of the suspect. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities are determined to bring justice to the affected parties.
