NEVADA – There are unclaimed items worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in the Nevada State Treasury.
“We have about $1 billion in the State Treasury,” said Zach Conine, who is Nevada’s State Treasurer.
National Unclaimed Property Day is on Wednesday, and Conine wants to remind people in Nevada to get their money back.
He said, “Every year, we try to get people to check out ClaimItNevada.org to see if they have unclaimed property.”
The money could come from old bank accounts, insurance checks, or gift certificates, among other places.
“An apartment deposit or a utility bill that was never paid back. “When they tell an employee to move on, sometimes that last paycheck doesn’t get back to them,” Conine said.
It’s worth taking a look because sometimes you can win a lot of money.
“The most money we’ve ever given back was $928,000,” they said.
