TAHOE, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – North Lake Tahoe had a busy day on Saturday, with four ski resorts declaring their openings.

Skiers and riders were welcomed back sooner than planned at Granlibakken, Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Northstar.

Winter storm systems dumped more than 40 inches of snow across the Sierra Nevada, creating a drastically different sight than this time last year. Amy Ohran, general manager at North star, said the storms helped the company launch a week ahead of plan and a month ahead of last year.

According to Northstar, nearly 1,500 visitors were eager to go back out on the slope. Jamil Alhassan, a Truckee native known on social media as “Snowboard Jesus,” says the atmosphere on the hill was high for the opening day of the season.

Staff and tourists alike are excited to see ancient traditions revived and new additions to the resorts. North star’s newly refurbished Comstock Express lift is set to launch on November 25 as planned.
