Southwest Gas Reminding Consumers About Home and Kitchen Safety This Holiday Season

RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – Most of us are making plans to spend the holidays with our family, but there are certain safety concerns.

Southwest Gas is advising its consumers to keep careful when heating appliances. Natural gas leaks are said to be a common concern. Take note of any rotten egg odors and any hissing or roaring coming from the ground or a natural gas appliance.

If you are outside and notice leaves blowing around, you most likely have a gas leak. In this situation, avoid activating your electric garage door or starting your automobile to avoid a spark. It is preferable to leave it out of your front door.

Stephen Miller suggested particular things to look out for in the kitchen.

“It’s a time when families gather in the kitchen. They cook together and they bake together. It’s important to keep an eye on your natural gas appliances, like your stove and your oven. If you’re cooking using your stovetop look at your flames, you want to make sure that they are a steady blue flame. If you see orange, that means you want to have your burners cleaned by a professional,” Miller said.

According to Southwest Gas, the most common concern is gas leakage.

If you suspect a natural gas leak, evacuate the area immediately and call 911 and Southwest Gas.
