ELY, Nev.- Authorities are still looking for the killer or killers of five wild horses who were shot last October in eastern Nevada, some 70 miles west of the Utah border.
On Nov. 16, four horses, one of which had an aborted fetus attached, were discovered dead within 600 yards of each other in Jakes Valley, roughly 30 miles west of Ely and 2 miles south of U.S. Highway 50.
According to the US Bureau of Land Management, a fifth horse was still alive but had been severely injured and had to be put.
The American Wild Horse Campaign stated on Thursday that it will add $5,000 to the $5,000 prize previously offered by the bureau for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone guilty for the horses’ deaths.
“We hope that increasing this reward will help lead to an arrest and conviction for this cruelty,” said Holly Gann Bice, the campaign’s director of government relations.
The horses, ranging in age from 18 months to six years, were murdered on or near the day a member of the public reported their discovery on Nov. 16, according to the bureau.
