NEVADA – A section of SR 28 near Country Club Drive in Incline Village was temporarily closed on Thursday due to a water main break. The incident resulted in water gushing out from the ground, as depicted in a photo shared by the North Lake Tahoe Fire department.
The initial call reporting the water main break was received shortly before 9:45 a.m. Emergency responders and utility crews were dispatched to the scene to assess and address the situation. The closure of the road caused inconvenience for commuters and residents in the area.
After hours of concerted efforts, firefighters and road construction crews managed to rectify the issue and reopened the affected section of SR 28. The road was made accessible to traffic again just before 3:30 p.m., allowing for normalcy to be restored.
According to authorities, the water main break was caused by road construction crews who were in the process of replacing guard rails along the highway. It appears that the construction activity inadvertently led to the rupture of the water main, resulting in the significant water flow and subsequent road closure.
