Lombardo Backs Federal Crackdown on Medicaid “Scourge”

LAS VEGAS, NV — Governor Lombardo has signaled that Nevada will be a leading partner in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) newly expanded fraud crackdown. The federal agency, led by Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, recently mandated that all 50 states submit a comprehensive plan to revalidate healthcare providers within 30 days.

Protecting the Safety Net

  • Zero Tolerance: Lombardo described Medicaid fraudsters as a “scourge” on the state’s fiscal health, emphasizing that Nevada will “not tolerate” bad actors who drain resources from vulnerable families.

  • Closing Loopholes: The push aligns with a new federal rule finalized earlier this year aimed at closing tax loopholes that states previously used to offload Medicaid costs onto federal taxpayers.

  • State Action: Nevada’s plan will focus on high-risk provider types to ensure that every dollar remains dedicated to children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
