LAS VEGAS, NV — Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD) Collision Investigation Section have announced a significant breakthrough in the search for a hit-and-run driver who struck a pedestrian near downtown earlier this month. On Friday, May 8, investigators confirmed they successfully located and recovered the vehicle involved in the crash—a royal blue SUV.
The Incident Recap
The collision occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 2, 2026, at approximately 3:00 AM.
-
Location: The intersection of East Charleston Boulevard and North Mojave Road.
-
The Victim: A male pedestrian was walking his dog and crossing Charleston Boulevard from south to north when he was struck by the westbound vehicle.
-
Medical Status: The victim was transported to the University Medical Center (UMC) Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. His dog was not reportedly harmed.
Investigative Findings
Surveillance footage and evidence from the scene indicate the pedestrian was within a marked crosswalk at the time of the impact. However, investigators noted that the individual was walking against a “Don’t Walk” traffic control signal when he crossed into the path of the SUV.
The front of the royal blue vehicle collided with the right side of the pedestrian, projecting him forward onto the roadway. Following the impact, the driver failed to stop or render aid, fleeing the scene immediately.
Ongoing Search for the Driver
While the recovery of the SUV marks a pivotal step in the case, the individual behind the wheel remains at large. Police are currently processing the vehicle for forensic evidence and are following several leads to identify the operator.
Call to Action: Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the driver or the events leading up to the collision to contact the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section at (702) 828-3595.
