Over 100 Dogs Rescued from Crammed RV in Mesquite as Suspects Face Animal Abuse Charges

MESQUITE, NV — The City of Mesquite Animal Shelter and local code enforcement authorities are facing a massive operational crisis following the dramatic rescue of 114 neglected dogs from a single, active recreational vehicle (RV). The massive animal welfare raid, which followed months of persistent neighborhood complaints, has resulted in a mountain of criminal animal abuse charges against two suspects.

The Walmart Discovery and Multi-Month Paper Trail

The massive scale of the intervention came to a head when a local resident shopping at a Mesquite Walmart spotted two small white dogs loose near a parked motorhome, prompting an immediate check by field units.

  • The Background: The primary suspect, identified by Mesquite authorities as Giustino Laudando, was already highly known to regional law enforcement. Laudando had been cited repeatedly for severe animal welfare and city code compliance violations earlier this year. He had been arrested twice on active warrants for failing to comply with local animal limits.

  • The Eviction and Flight: Following an eviction from a residential property earlier this year, Laudando told authorities he intended to transport the animals out of Nevada. Instead, investigators discovered he had established a transient, mobile outpost on nearby Bureau of Land Management (BLM) public property just outside city limits before returning into town.

Shelter Grid Strained past Capacity

Mesquite Police and regional animal control personnel executing the search warrant on the vehicle were stunned by the extreme, unsanitary conditions hidden inside.

A total of 114 dogs of varying breeds were systematically extricated from the cramped interior. Due to the total lack of ventilation, heavy waste buildup, and structural confinement, a large majority of the animals required immediate emergency medical stabilization.

The unprecedented intake has pushed the newly expanded Mesquite Animal Shelter well past its maximum physical and financial boundaries:

  • The Triage: Shelter teams and veterinary volunteers are working continuous shifts to handle intense decontamination, nutritional feeding schedules, and advanced wound care.

  • The Population Surge: Several of the rescued female dogs were heavily pregnant upon extraction. Within days of the raid, one dog gave birth to a litter of four puppies, officially driving the total number of animals locked in municipal care to 118.

Criminal Counts and Community Appeals

Online court records indicate that Laudando and a second cooperating suspect face over 100 misdemeanor and felony counts related to animal cruelty and municipal code defiance.

Because the localized shelter’s medical resource reserves have been entirely exhausted by the sudden surge, Mesquite city administrators and the Friends of Mesquite Animal Shelter non-profit network have issued an urgent public appeal for community donations, clean blankets, premium dog food, and specialized veterinary supplies to assist with long-term rehabilitation.
