LAS VEGAS, NV — Clark County School District (CCSD) administrators, state officials, and community leaders gathered along the fast-growing northwest valley wall on Monday to celebrate a major infrastructure milestone: the official groundbreaking of the brand-new Skye Canyon Elementary School.

The event marks the start of a 413-day countdown until the modern educational campus officially opens its doors to relieve heavy classroom space constraints in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Relieving Northwest Classroom Densities

Superintendent Jhone Ebert and CCSD Board of School Trustees member Lisa Satory joined community families at the site located at 8401 North Shaumber Road, near West Skye Canyon Park Drive. The area represents one of the fastest-growing master-planned residential footprints in Southern Nevada, sitting roughly 25 miles northwest of the Las Vegas Strip.

“Driving here this morning, I saw dozens of people and children that were already out walking,” Superintendent Ebert stated during the ceremony. “So I already feel the energy in this community for building out to Skye Canyon Elementary.”

Campus Capacity and Specifications

CCSD Chief of Facilities Brandon McLaughlin confirmed that the upcoming project will yield a 108,000-square-foot facility housing 53 structural classrooms. The neighborhood asset is engineered to accommodate up to 850 students simultaneously.

The campus layout is fully scheduled to complete construction and welcome its inaugural student body in time for the launch of the 2027-28 academic school year. While a school principal and official student mascot have not yet been designated, administrators highlighted that the campus layout gives the district a clean canvas to cultivate a distinct academic identity tailored to the expanding Skye Canyon family base.
