CRUDE AWAKENING: Trump Lands ‘Biggest Oil Deal in World History,’ Muscles China and Russia Out of Venezuela

President Donald Trump has secured an unprecedented American foothold in Venezuela’s vast oil fields, giving the United States economic ownership, governance rights and preferential access to tens of billions of barrels of crude while pushing Chinese and Russian interests out of America’s backyard.
The White House calls it the “biggest oil deal in world history.” Under the agreement, North American Blue Energy Partners received 100-year concessions covering 17 Venezuelan oil fields containing roughly 65 billion barrels of proven reserves. In return, the U.S. government receives a 35 percent equity stake in NABEP’s corporate parent at no taxpayer cost.
America also gets the right to purchase 20 percent of production at cost and first refusal on the remaining 80 percent. A majority of NABEP’s board must be American citizens, and Washington holds veto power over board appointments. The company plans up to $100 billion in privately financed infrastructure investment to revive fields crippled by decades of socialist mismanagement.
Call it the Monroe Doctrine with an oil rig.
Many of the fields were previously operated or controlled by Russian and Chinese companies or interests connected to Nicolás Maduro’s corrupt socialist machine. Reuters reported that operators losing ground include Chinese firms such as Sinopec and CNPC. Trump’s deal replaces that foreign influence with a U.S.-led structure governed under American law and subject to American auditing.
The White House says millions of barrels of new Venezuelan production will ultimately move through American refineries using American equipment and infrastructure, generating billions in investment and thousands of jobs. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Venezuela’s oil output could more than double over the next several years as American and international companies pour capital back into a sector socialism spent decades gutting.
There is even a delicious historical irony buried beneath all that crude.
Hugo Chávez built his socialist revolution by nationalizing industries, chasing private capital away and turning one of the most resource-rich countries on Earth into an economic catastrophe. Now Venezuela’s recovery strategy involves privatization, American investment, U.S. oversight and kicking communist China and Vladimir Putin’s Russia away from valuable oil fields.
Socialism broke it. Capitalism is being asked to put it back together.
Some major oil producers and industry experts have raised questions about the deal’s unusual structure and the enormous investment necessary to restore Venezuela’s dilapidated infrastructure. Reuters reported concerns over NABEP’s ability to finance an expansion of this magnitude. But Venezuelan lawmakers approved the arrangement this week, while Chevron simultaneously announced plans for more than $7 billion in additional investment.
For Nevada motorists, the stakes are considerably less theoretical.
AAA reported Thursday that regular gasoline averages $4.91 per gallon statewide, roughly a dollar more than a year ago. Reno motorists are paying about $5.19, while Las Vegas sits around $4.91. Additional secure Western Hemisphere production could eventually put downward pressure on global crude prices, though how much and how quickly remains uncertain.
Trump’s wager is unmistakable: produce more oil, put America first in the supply chain and deny hostile powers control over strategic energy reserves sitting a few hours from U.S. shores.
China wanted Venezuela’s oil.
Russia wanted Venezuela’s oil.
Trump just planted an American flag over 65 billion barrels of it.
