CRUMBS TO CREDIT: Pro-Susie Lee Ad Claims She’s Delivering ‘No Tax on Tips’ After She Voted Against It

A new television ad backing Nevada Democrat Rep. Susie Lee is attempting an extraordinary election-year rewrite of one of the clearest votes of her congressional career, portraying Lee as a champion of No Tax on Tips after she voted against the legislation that actually put the policy into federal law.

Elect Democratic Women is running an ad in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District claiming Lee is “working with both parties to end all taxes on tips.” The bipartisan-sounding pitch conveniently skips over Lee’s July 2025 vote against President Donald Trump’s tax package, which enacted the federal deduction for qualified tip income and No Tax on Overtime.

The official House record is not ambiguous. Lee voted “No” when Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed the House 218-214 on July 3, 2025. The legislation subsequently became law with the tip and overtime deductions included. 

Lee did not simply object to unrelated provisions buried somewhere in the legislation and move along quietly. She later attacked the law’s benefits for Southern Nevada families as “temporary crumbs.” Her office now says she supports making No Tax on Tips permanent and has promoted separate legislation seeking to extend the benefit. 

That sequence is precisely what makes the new ad politically explosive.

Vote against the bill when the policy is being enacted. Trash the resulting relief as “crumbs.” Then, once the policy proves popular with Nevada’s enormous hospitality workforce, run television ads presenting yourself as the politician working to deliver it.

That is not ancient congressional archaeology. It happened during Lee’s current term.

No Tax on Tips has unique political potency in Nevada because Trump first rolled out the proposal in Las Vegas, where bartenders, casino dealers, servers, valets and other tipped employees form an unusually large share of the workforce. The issue has since become a recurring vulnerability for Lee and Nevada’s other House Democrats, all of whom opposed the final Republican tax legislation. 

Lee’s defenders argue that she has long supported eliminating taxes on tips and opposed Trump’s broader legislation because of provisions elsewhere in the bill. That explains her stated policy position today. It does not erase the vote Republicans are now placing directly beside the new campaign ad.

The NRCC is not bothering with subtlety.

“Crooked Susie Lee thinks working Nevadans are suckers and their paychecks are campaign props,” NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez said. “She will lie about anything, insult anyone and rewrite any part of her record to cling to power. She has no shame, no credibility and no business representing Nevada.”

The political maneuver is especially risky because Lee’s district remains one of the country’s most closely watched House battlegrounds, and Republicans have spent months accusing her of trying to distance herself from unpopular portions of her record while claiming ownership of policies voters like.

Elect Democratic Women wants Nevadans to remember the television ad.

Republicans want them to remember the roll call.

Only one of those was recorded by the Clerk of the House.
