LAS VEGAS, NV — An 80-year-old pedestrian died Friday morning after being struck by a pickup truck in east Las Vegas, marking the 86th traffic-related fatality investigated within Metro’s jurisdiction in 2026.

The fatal crash—which occurred on East Cedar Avenue west of North Eastern Avenue—involved a motorist who displayed signs of impairment at the scene, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident caps a deadly week for pedestrians across the valley floor, arriving days after a fatal hit-and-run on North Nellis Boulevard and an impaired-driving pedestrian fatality on Boulder Highway in Henderson.

Pre-Dawn Impact on East Cedar Avenue

According to preliminary evidence, physical roadway markings, video surveillance, and witness statements gathered by LVMPD Collision Investigation detectives, the collision occurred at approximately 5:17 a.m. on Friday, September 18.

Investigators established that a 2017 Nissan Titan was traveling westbound along East Cedar Avenue approaching North Eastern Avenue.

At the same time, the 80-year-old male pedestrian was attempting to cross East Cedar Avenue outside of any marked or implied crosswalk.

The front of the Nissan struck the elderly pedestrian, inflicting major blunt-force injuries.

Emergency medical responders with the Clark County Fire Department transported the victim to the University Medical Center Trauma Center, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office is withholding the victim’s legal identity pending formal identification and notifications to next of kin.

The driver of the Nissan Titan—identified by police as 38-year-old Jessica Cortez of Las Vegas—remained on scene following the crash.
