The sentencing—announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada—was handed down at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse in downtown Las Vegas by United States District Judge Cristina D. Silva.
Court filings reveal that 22-year-old Ty’Shaun Meeks of Las Vegas operated without a Federal Firearms License (FFL), selling tactical-style rifles, semi-automatic handguns, and illicit synthetic opioids to undercover buyers and street-level recipients.

Undercover ATF Stings Target Illicit Weapons and Fentanyl
According to court records and investigative summaries compiled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Meeks engaged in a continuous pattern of black-market firearm and narcotic sales throughout Southern Nevada.
Between October 4, 2024, and December 20, 2024, ATF undercover operations documented Meeks negotiating and executing multiple illicit transfers across the Las Vegas metropolitan area.
Among the weapons trafficked, Meeks sold a Ruger AR-556 tactical rifle equipped with a 30-round high-capacity magazine, along with multiple semi-automatic handguns, to individuals who were not vetted through federal background check protocols.
Simultaneously, federal agents tracked Meeks distributing batches of counterfeit prescription pills pressed with illicit fentanyl.
The intersection of unregulated street-level weapons sales and high-potency synthetic opioids placed the operation at the top of federal interdiction priorities in Clark County under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative.
Sentencing Order and Federal Supervision
Meeks entered a guilty plea to statutory counts of engaging in the business of dealing firearms without a license and distributing a controlled substance.

During the sentencing hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Brister highlighted the public safety danger posed by unlicensed weapons dealers who funnel semi-automatic rifles into street circulation alongside lethal narcotics.
Judge Silva adopted the government’s sentencing recommendation, remanding Meeks to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 33 months, followed by a strict four-year term of federal supervised release that mandates drug testing, travel limitations, and compliance monitoring.
Federal law enforcement leaders in Nevada reaffirmed that joint ATF, DEA, and Metro task forces will continue aggressively prosecuting unlicensed gun runners who bypass federal background registries to supply illicit street markets.
