LAS VEGAS, NV — A 65-year-old Blue Diamond resident has died at University Medical Center more than two weeks after suffering catastrophic injuries in a head-on collision in the southwest Las Vegas Valley.

According to LVMPD collision investigation logs, the initial high-impact crash occurred on the morning of Sunday, October 11, 2026, along State Route 160 (Blue Diamond Road), just east of the Grand Canyon Drive intersection.
Investigators determined that the victim was operating a Nissan Maxima traveling along the multi-lane highway when the vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming Mercedes-Benz E-350.

Extended Hospitalization and Delayed Fatality Designation
The 65-year-old driver was rushed to University Medical Center with life-threatening traumatic injuries, where he remained hospitalized in critical condition for nearly two weeks.
The driver and passenger of the Mercedes-Benz E-350 were also transported to UMC with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.
Metro Police confirmed that hospital personnel notified the Fatal Detail on Saturday that the 65-year-old driver had succumbed to his injuries.
Following medical examiner reviews, the case was formally reclassified Tuesday morning as a vehicular fatality.
Because the passing occurred within the standard 30-day reporting window mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the death was assigned an official fatal collision tracking sequence, crossing the 100-fatality threshold alongside the recent death of 75-year-old pedestrian Roland Bame.
High-Speed Corridor Safety Along Blue Diamond Road
State Route 160 serves as a critical, high-speed arterial connecting the Las Vegas Valley to Mountain Springs and Pahrump.
Rapid residential and commercial growth around Grand Canyon Drive has elevated traffic density, prompting recurring speed enforcement and lane modification reviews by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).
