NEVADA — The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) is alerting the public about at least two persons impersonating police enforcement in the county. On Aug. 22, the two guys were seen approaching a house in the 3000 block of Eastlake Blvd. in Washoe Valley.

The guys approached a house and identified themselves as “detectives” from the Washoe County Sheriff’s “department” responding to a complaint about a suspicious individual in the area. When requested for identification by the householder, both guys presented silver star-shaped badges from black wallets, but they refused to disclose their names.

The individuals were characterized as clean-shaven, white men in their 30s. The first suspect was dressed in a black T-shirt, dark blue jeans, a black cap, and had brown eyes. The second suspect wore a maroon shirt with blue jeans and had light brown hair. The suspects were last seen driving an unmarked silver Ford Explorer with headlights on either side. Neither individual was spotted carrying a pistol, handcuffs, or any other police enforcement-related equipment.

The WCSO had not received any calls for assistance in the Eastlake Blvd. vicinity at the time of the incident. Furthermore, WCSO Dispatch confirmed that neither Reno nor Sparks Police were there at the time of the incident. At the time, there were no detectives or undercover teams working in the region.

If confronted in a similar position, officers would never fail to offer their name, badge, or commission number, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Members of the public who are in similar situations or suspect that someone is impersonating a member of law enforcement can phone the WCSO non-emergency dispatch line at (775) 785-9276 or 911.

Anyone with information on the Eastlake Blvd. incident can contact the Sheriff’s Office at (775) 328-3001 and refer to case #WC22-4347.
