As Hurricane Ian Heads Toward Florida, Nevada Is Lending a Hand and Helping Out
NEVADA – Red Cross volunteers are trained to help in disasters left on Monday to help people in Florida.
Volunteers are getting ready to care for a large number of people, build shelters, and do other things to help. More than 500 Red Cross workers from around the country are already on the ground or on their way to help. Cherie Reisinger from Reno, James Wright from northern Nevada, and several others from southern Nevada are among the volunteers.
“The American Red Cross and our partners are working to be ready if and when people need to leave the area,” said Heidi Ruster, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Utah/Nevada Region. “We have the supplies and people on hand to make sure that everyone affected by the storm has a safe place to stay, food to eat, important relief supplies, emotional support, and comfort as this storm could be very bad.”
Ruster said that important supplies like pallets of water, meals, and disaster cleanup kits are being brought in to help. “The American Red Cross is set up so that it can grow or shrink depending on how big a disaster response operation is. And we want to be close enough to the areas where the storm might hit so that we can help people quickly. All over Florida, our team is getting ready to help those in need.”
