$7.8 Million Worth of Marijuana Was Seized in Lincoln County’s Wilderness

NEVADA – The Nevada State Police reported seizing approximately 8,700 pounds ($7.8 million) of marijuana from an illegal outdoor grow operation in a remote wilderness section of Lincoln County.

Authorities announced Monday that Jesus Garcia Lopez, Antonio Madrigal, and Marcelino Madrigal had been arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center on charges related to the trafficking of more than 5,000 pounds of marijuana.

A hunter who was scouting in the mountains in February phoned the NSP’s Investigation Division, saying he was sure he had stumbled onto illegal outdoor marijuana grow operation. According to the release, surveillance and reconnaissance operations revealed that the location had been used for cultivation in the past and had recently resumed operations.

The operation on September 18 included the NSP, the National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, the Bureau of Land Management, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Eastern Nevada Narcotic Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Forest Service.
