Long-Time Residents Are Honored in North Las Vegas at This Occasion

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – On Monday, North Las Vegas officials took the opportunity to honor many of the city’s long-term inhabitants.

The city held a celebration for residents who have resided in North Las Vegas for at least 50 years.

Breakfast was served, and UNLV historian Joseph Thompson gave a special lecture. Both Mayor John Lee and Mayor-elect Pamela Goynes-Brown attended and spoke during the ceremony.

One of the residents honored on Monday was James Edward Johnson.

“It’s been good,” Johnson said about living in North Las Vegas. “A lot of success here.”

According to Goynes-Brown, while a picture is worth a thousand words, hearing the locals relate their tales is priceless.

“A lot of those people helped to shape North Las Vegas into things that you see today because a lot of them worked at the [Nevada] Test Site or worked at Nellis Air Force Base or were educators or worked in the casinos,” the mayor-elect said. “So it’s just nice to have that lineage and for those people that are still with us to be able to share some of their stories.”
