In the First Year of Infrastructure Expenditure Nevada Receives $1.7 Billion

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – A year into the federal initiative to increase infrastructure investment, Nevada has won $1.7 billion, the majority of which is for road improvements.

The White House forecasts that Nevada will get extra $1 billion in federal roadway and bridge investment over the next five years.

According to an interactive map that illustrates expenditure around the country, funding has been distributed to transportation projects (80.90%), climate/energy/environmental projects (17.89%), and broadband internet projects (1.13%).

In total, $185 billion in expenditure has been announced across the United States. So far, California ($16.2 billion), Texas ($13.9 billion), and New York ($9.3 billion) have received the highest allocations.

“In Nevada, there are 28 bridges and over 1,090 miles of highway in poor condition. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will rebuild our roads and includes the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system,” according to a White House news release.

The majority of Nevada’s contributions ($1.2 billion) are earmarked for roads, bridges, traffic safety, and other transportation projects. This sum includes $972 million for highway upgrades and $90 million for bridge repairs. According to the White House, these initiatives began this year and will continue through 2023.

Transportation funding includes $48.9 million in RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) program awards for rural projects.

One of these projects will connect Interstate 80 and Highway 50 near Fernley, 35 miles east of Reno, to improve access to the Victory Logistics District industrial park. The area is a master-planned industrial park with significant rail lines serving it. It has been defined as an initiative that will improve supply chain efficiency, lowering the cost of certain commodities.

$88.9 million has been set aside under the INFRA program (known in the federal government as the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Initiatives) for national/regional projects that involve Nevada.
