Celebration of Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – “Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day” was observed on Monday.

The event was designed to remember the day in 1960 when Bridges became the first African American youngster to attend an all-white public school.

Before school, students from all around the Las Vegas valley gathered to stroll through the front gates together.

“One of the main things, I think, that is important for our kids to understand is they’re never too young to be an activist,” Jason Smith, a fifth-grade teacher at Aldeane C. Ries Elementary School said. “They’re never too young to make a change.”
