WCSD Board to Talk About District E Seat Contenders

WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – The Washoe County School Board will meet Tuesday to consider the District E vacancy. It comes after Trustee Angie Taylor was elected to the State Assembly to represent District 27.

Candidates include Joey Gilbert, Meghan Beyer, Kellie Crosby-Sturtz, Cody Johnson, Adrienne Potter, John Reyes, and Alex Woodley. The purpose of this conference is to limit the number of candidates. During this procedure, board members will assess the candidate’s character, competency, and any wrongdoing.

District E includes areas of Northwest Reno, including Somerset and Verdi, as well as parts of the Lemmon and Panther Valleys. There are 17 schools in that neighborhood.

Angie Taylor, who has served on the school board for eight years, resigned formally on Monday. It is as follows:

“It is with mixed emotions that I submit my official letter of resignation from the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees effective immediately.

While I was initially told that I could remain in office until the Nevada State Supreme Court canvassed the election results on November 22, 2022, I discovered today that remaining until then might create a legal problem that could be contested in court. Despite the fact that it isn’t settled law, it doesn’t make sense to drag the District through a lengthy court struggle.

For the past eight years, I have had the honor of representing the children, staff, schools, and people of District E. During that time, I have been honored to serve as Board President for four years, Board Vice President twice, and Board Clerk once. I believe that leadership is a privilege, and while I am not flawless, I hope my term has a beneficial influence.
