Elf House Christmas Light Show Is Once Again Going All Out for the Holidays
NEVADA – A Cold Spring family is going all out for the holidays once more.
The Alvarado House is easy to locate, particularly at night. The Elf House is a dazzling beacon of Christmas cheer (4018 White Rock Court, Reno).
Jennifer Alvarado and her husband launched it three years ago because they enjoy the holidays.
“We’ve always been insane decorators,” she explained.
This year’s exhibit includes candy canes, snowmen, and even The Grinch, but the real star is this wooden sleigh.
“One of our neighbors and my own elf inside worked together to make the sleigh, which took about three weeks,” Alvarado explained.
Every day from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the Elf House is open, and on special Elf Nights, visitors can enjoy hot cocoa, music, and cookies.
It’s not just about the lights, though. Families can also leave notes for Santa, and if they provide a return address, Santa will reply.
“We accept donations for Ashlee’s Toy Closet as well as the SPCA of Northern Nevada,” Alvarado explained. “We do that because we believe it protects both the children and the pets.”
In the past, they’ve received 1,000 messages, and Alvarado estimates that 800 people came to visit on last year’s sole Elf Night.
They’ve had less visitors and donations this year due to the weather, so they’re adding some extra elf nights tomorrow (Saturday, December 10) and next Saturday, December 17.
Don’t worry, The Grinch can’t take Christmas. Santa will be on hand at Elf Nights to help with the decorations and take photos with families.
When asked what keeps them continuing year after year, Alvarado replied, “the kids, totally the kids.” They come in with the greatest smiles and like glancing up at the window to see the elves move.”
Ashlee’s Closet is in need of new unopened items and gift cards, and the SPCA offers a wishlist.
The Elf House is looking for volunteers who want to be elves. Message the Facebook page if you’re interested.
