LAS VEGAS – Starbucks employees in Las Vegas have chosen to unionize.
Workers at the Rainbow and Oakey Boulevard facility will be the first in Nevada to be represented by a union.
The vote comes after a three-day strike at retail outlets across the country. The walkout was the longest in the year-long fight to unionize its retailers.
Employees have told Fox 5 that they want more consistent scheduling and more say in dealing with workplace difficulties.
“I feel very relieved and stronger in my position here at Starbucks,” Diana Arias, a barista at the Rainbow and Oakey locations, said. “I’m excited to have a true connection with Starbucks and my fellow partners.”
In less than a year, nearly 250 Starbucks locations in 36 states have unionized.
