Soon Radiation Detection Planes Will Be Flying Above the Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – With New Year’s Eve only a few days away, the government is increasing its security presence throughout the valley. This includes what are known as radiation flights above the Strip.

On December 29 and 31, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of the United States Department of Energy will fly a helicopter outfitted with radiation-detecting sensors over the Las Vegas Strip.

The aircraft will assess predicted background radiation as part of normal preparations to protect public health and safety during the New Year’s Eve festivities.

This helicopter will be seen flying low and sluggish at times, roughly 150 feet above the ground, while employing radiation-sensing equipment.

The data will be utilized to see whether there is a shift in radiation before New Year’s Eve.
